Midweek Adult Bible Study
“The Gospel according to St. John”
Wednesdays, April 11th, 18th, 25th, May 2nd & 9th
Redeemer Lutheran   6:30-8:00

The Gospel according to St. John is unlike the other three gospels that come before it—in content, in tone, in sequence, and in interpretation of Jesus’ ministry. John is the Gospel that gives us soaring phrases like, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.” We also get some unique and interesting characters: Nicodemus, Nathaniel, the Samaritan Woman at the well, Mary, Martha, and Lazarus.  We also get some of Jesus’ greatest miracles: changing water into wine, healing of the paralytic, healing a man born blind, and the raising of Lazarus from the dead.  This gospel also uses simple vocabulary to express theological truths: light and darkness, sight and blindness, slavery and freedom; truth and falseness. And most of all, the glory of God in Christ is revealed exactly where we would never look—on the cross! Come on Wednesday evenings in April and May to learn about this interesting and inspiring gospel!

“Wine & Cheese Tasting”
Lorain Co-op Fundraiser
Saturday, April 28th      5:00—7:00 pm
First Lutheran Church, 1019 W 5th Street, Lorain

The Lorain Co-Operative Ministry Board has decided to resurrect the “Wine & Cheese” event as our spring fundraiser this year. Come to First Lutheran in Lorain on the last Saturday of the month anytime between 5 and 7 o’clock for wine tasting, cheese and crackers, a chocolate fountain, and entertainment. According to Michele Gillum, the wines to be featured are: a Sterling Vineyards Merlot (dry red), a LaVielle Ferme Rose (a well balanced pink), a Chateau St. Michelle Riesling (a sweeter white) and a Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc (a citrusy white). All of these are delicious wines and will be fun to try. There will also be a raffle for gourmet cakes and desserts. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from Deb Hoyson, Dolly Sherrard, or Jackie Stevens.
