Service
Food Pantry
Mondays, January 13th & 27th
6:00—8:00 p.m.
In December, with only one distribution, we provided 87 families (291 individuals) with extra food for the holidays, as well as a ham and holiday bag for every family.
The amount of nutritious food we distribute is amazing, and the people who come to our church for help are very appreciative of our efforts. January brings cold weather—and a need for even more help. With our store room re-stocked by Lake Ridge Academy, the produce and bread brought by our Co-Op Driver, and our volunteers—we are ready! Many thanks to everyone who helps us fulfill our mission to love others in the name of Christ.
Extra thanks to Jackie Stevens and Andrea Orosz, who represent Christ Lutheran on the Board of the Lorain Cooperative Ministry. They not only help at our pantry, but they also contribute time and effort to the Co-op. Jackie is the Treasurer and Andrea is a member. Check out the Co-op’s website: www.loraincoopministry.com.

Adopt-a-School
Our adopted school (Helene Steiner Rice) was filled with fun time for the students on Friday, December 20, as they celebrated a Grinch Christmas with the green cupcakes and cookies we helped to provide! If you’d like more information about how to get involved with this fantastic program, talk to Karen Kovacs, Donna Bolling, or Deanna Powell.

“Your Sock-ri-fice” Program
A HUGE thank you for your overwhelming support of the “Your Sock-ri-fice” program. Your donations of gently used and new socks and underwear have been beyond our expectations. Thank you, again, for all that you have done this past year. You’ve helped so many people who do not have very much. Keep it up!

Bereavement Ministry
Funeral Dinner Service
“As Needed”
Begun by Mary Fischer many years ago, our offer to host a Fellowship Dinner after a funeral for families who have lost a loved one is one of the most compassionate things we do as a congregation. At a time when families are often at a loss about what to do, we can provide a time and place for them to gather, to eat a meal they haven't had to prepare, and to share memories—both sad and funny—about their newly sainted family member. With no exception, each time a dinner if offered and accepted, the families are incredibly grateful for this ministry at their time of loss.
When Mary turned over this responsibility a couple of years ago, the GALS picked up the task of organizing the food and workers for these funeral dinners. But the lists of those willing to donate food and time are sadly out-of-date, and the GALS find themselves going back to the same people time after time for dishes and dish washers. Though the GALS are happy to continue organizing these meals, this is a ministry of Christ Lutheran Church we all share, and we could use more help in this effort.
If you are willing to make a funeral dinner item (always a side dish since the family provides the meat entrée) such as potatoes, vegetables, salads, jello, desserts, rolls or beverages, please call the Church Office to add your name to the list. If you would be willing to help set-up, serve or clean-up after a funeral meal, please indicate that as well. If we get a good response to this request, the hope is that you would only receive a call to help once or twice a year. That way, no one is overburdened to provide food (which can get expensive) or labor (which can be time-consuming). The GALS will continue to organize the meal, communicate with the family, and order / pick-up the meat, but more help is definitely needed. Call Susan at the church office to offer your service to this Bereavement Ministry. Thanks to all who have been part of this Christian service over the years, and thanks to the GALS for all their work to continue it.
