Service
We had our annual installation of council and officers on Sunday, March 23rd. Many thanks to everyone who steps up to serve and lead our congregation.
Food Pantry
Monday, April 14 & 28
6—8 p.m.
Thanks to all who are so loyal in helping every month with morning deliveries, registration, guiding people through the choice pantry, packing items for guests, and taking boxes to cars. Through food from Second Harvest and Lake Ridge Academy, we are well-stocked to serve our pantry families with good, healthy food.
Many thanks to Brenda, Andrea, and Jackie for “taking care of business” with Second Harvest: filling out forms, sending in orders, and taking training. We appreciate their work in helping others.
Through the generosity of Lake Ridge Academy, we received plenty of canned goods and items for our food pantry. Thanks to Lake Ridge staff and students who collected the items …and to all of our volunteers who helped sort it onto shelves!
The amount of nutritious food we give away is considerable...in 2024, we served 1,740 families, which totaled 5.656 individuals, a huge increase from 2023. (1,515 families and 4,774 individuals) The quality and quantity of food we distribute is amazing, and so are our dedicated volunteers who work both Monday mornings and evenings to help others in need. Come to lend a hand on a Monday evening. In April, we serve our pantry families on the 14th and 28th.
We are asking for your help in our endeavors! We are always in need of more volunteers, especially volunteers who are willing/able to help carry food to cars; but we also have other tasks to fulfill. PLEASE consider helping out on these VERY important evenings. Talk to Andrea Orosz or Jackie Stevens for more details!

Adopt-A-School
April 17th is career day at Helen Steiner Rice Elementary. Karen Kovacs and Donna Bolling will be attending to help things run smoothly. Would you like to join them?
Then, May 5th through May 9th is Teacher Appreciation Week. We have committed to send 60 donuts one day, just like we did last year! While the teachers appreciate our treats, we appreciate them! Many thanks to teachers, who are helping shape our future!

Bereavement Ministry
Funeral Dinner Service
“As Needed”
Begun by Mary Fischer many years ago, our offer to host a Fellowship Dinner after a funeral for families who have lost a loved one is one of the most compassionate things we do as a congregation. At a time when families are often at a loss about what to do, we can provide a time and place for them to gather, to eat a meal they haven't had to prepare, and to share memories—both sad and funny—about their newly sainted family member. With no exception, each time a dinner if offered and accepted, the families are incredibly grateful for this ministry at their time of loss.
When Mary turned over this responsibility a couple of years ago, the GALS picked up the task of organizing the food and workers for these funeral dinners. But the lists of those willing to donate food and time are sadly out-of-date, and the GALS find themselves going back to the same people time after time for dishes and dish washers. Though the GALS are happy to continue organizing these meals, this is a ministry of Christ Lutheran Church we all share, and we could use more help in this effort.
If you are willing to make a funeral dinner item (always a side dish since the family provides the meat entrée) such as potatoes, vegetables, salads, jello, desserts, rolls or beverages, please call the Church Office to add your name to the list. If you would be willing to help set-up, serve or clean-up after a funeral meal, please indicate that as well. If we get a good response to this request, the hope is that you would only receive a call to help once or twice a year. That way, no one is overburdened to provide food (which can get expensive) or labor (which can be time-consuming). The GALS will continue to organize the meal, communicate with the family, and order / pick-up the meat, but more help is definitely needed. Call Susan at the church office to offer your service to this Bereavement Ministry. Thanks to all who have been part of this Christian service over the years, and thanks to the GALS for all their work to continue it.
