Do You feel Like You Wear Too Many Hats?
There are times when I do! But then, when I have nothing to do, I feel lost. So, what do I do? I lay around and feel sorry for myself, or I go shopping online, or I clean the house, or I go to the office to work. Then Susan will send me a text and say, “Do you have anything for the newsletter?” So here goes: let’s see which hat or hat(s) I will wear today!
Let’s start with Bluegrass. (Cowboy hat here!) Have you ever come to a Bluegrass Night? It is a fun fellowship night, and the kitchen crew cooks up some great food. This can be any-thing from a hot dog with chili sauce, sausages with peppers & onions, sloppy joes, macaroni salad, pasta salad, potato salad, potato soup, nachos, or a real crowd pleaser - cabbage and noodles. For a $6 door fee, you can come in, sit down, and enjoy some great music and get a good meal at a reasonable price. Try your luck at the 50/50 pot or the lottery tree: the lottery tree has $25 of lottery tickets on it, and there could always be a lucky big winner in there. Come join us the first Saturday each month from 5pm to 9 pm. (Except for June, July, and August when our bands take a summer break.) The money raised at bluegrass is going into a fund to help with a much-needed kitchen remodel.
Now onto Fellowship. (Sunday sun hat!) Have you stayed after church on the third Sunday of the month for dessert and fellow-ship? Every third Sunday, we invite you to share a few desserts and coffee with your fellow church-goers. Would you rather we did a potluck occasionally? Let us know. We can change things anytime if people will support us. This gives everyone a chance to talk to each other, to socialize, and possibly talk to a few council members and tell them what you think about how our church is doing. This church belongs to each of us, and we should all feel like we have a say. On Easter Sunday, we will be having an Easter breakfast, in fact by the time you read this it might even be over! I hope that a lot of you come/came to church early and enjoyed the breakfast. Our next gathering will be on April 21. On May 19, we’d like to plan something for the ladies in honor of Mother’s Day. Then, in June, we’ll do something for the men for Father’s day. Let me know what you might like us to do.
Now onto the Lorain Co-Operative Ministry. (chef’s hat – for food!) The co-op is still going strong; and, as usual, Andrea and I are asking for help or money to help this group. By the end of April (maybe sooner) the co-op will be setting up an online raffle for some wonderful items. This raffle will be called “THE STAY-CATION.” So far there is a yearly membership for a family (2 adults and kids) for the Cleveland zoo; two tickets for the Miller Boats line to the islands; a season pass to Rocking on the River shows for 2024; an automobile package with cleaning items to help the handy man keep his car up to his liking; and Michele is trying to get other items, so the options will continue to grow with more items. She is trying to get tickets to other popular places in the area along with restaurants and/or hotel discounts. I know a lot of you have said, “Oh no!!! I am not going online to purchase tickets!” That’s fine! Mark your calendars, now, because you will also be able to purchase tickets in person: on May 5, we will be having a gathering at Christ Lutheran so you can purchase tickets on the spot; and the drawing will be held at Christ Lutheran on that day. Also, a few of us will be selling tickets in church, so you will be able to purchase tickets 3 different ways: online, from one of us at church, or in person, at the gathering May 5… whatever you feel comfortable with! No excuses! Just get ready to support this organization. Yes, I am asking for your money... again!
Seems like that is one hat (a banker’s hat) I cannot lose! I have always said that God has a sense of humor. Years ago (when I was much, much younger!) I hated the minister always asking for money. In fact, it was one of the reasons I stopped attending church. Now God has decided that this is something I must do. Thank you, God!
Those are only 3 of the hats I wear for church. I won’t even go into how many other hats I wear for church or in my personal life. I bet you wear many, too. I say we should all pray for each other and help each other with all of our hats. Sometimes they get crooked; but, with everyone helping each other, we can get them straight and use our talents to help others—like God tells us to.
