Food Pantry
July 14 & 28  and August  11 & 25
6 - 8  p.m.

As usual, Food Pantry Nights are on the second and fourth Mondays of the month: July 14th & 28th and August 11th & 25th. Help is always welcome to register clients, pack boxes, and carry them out to cars.  Deliveries are on Monday mornings at 10:30, and help is appreciated, then, too!

With the price of groceries (and everything else) rising with inflation, our food pantry ministry is more important than ever. We are blessed that Christ Lutheran (with the help of the Lorain Co-operative Ministry and the Second Harvest Food Bank) can help provide food items to those who need it. And with the Fellowship Hall being air conditioned, it is pleasant during our pantry nights  -  even in the summer heat! We are always looking for a couple more volunteers... if you are able to help on the second and/or fourth Mondays of the month, please talk to Andrea Orosz.  Many thanks to everyone who gives of their time and energy to serve, both with morning deliveries and evening distributions.

American Legion Makes Donation to
Christ Lutheran Food Pantry

We send a heartfelt thank you to Mike Schrull and American Legion Post 211 in Avon Lake.  Mike presented Christ Lutheran Food Pantry a very generous donation of $1,000 to use for the food pantry, as we provide much needed food for those in need, including many Veterans.  The timing of the donation could not have been better. Due to recent federal budget cuts, Second Harvest has had very limited supplies; and our food pantry is in need of the staples that our clients look forward to receiving.  Thank you (SO VERY MUCH) from all of us!! Pictured above are Mike and just a few of the many volunteers who (as their shirts say) “Live Generously”.

St. Andrew’s Community Meal
July 21st and August 18th
6 p.m.

On June 16th, we served 98 meals (barbecue pulled pork, homemade cole slaw, chips, fruit cocktail, and cookies) as well as other snacks to the community in downtown Elyria. We even had enough leftovers to provide an additional 35 pulled pork sandwiches to be served by The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Lorain.  Thank you to all of the helpers who prepared the food and served the community! The community always appreciates the hard work put in by our church.  Our summer community meals will be held on Monday, July 21st and Monday, August 18th.  Please talk to Deanna Powell, Sue Citro, Karen Neuschaefer, or Mark Bursley to learn how you can help with this fabulous outreach project.  Thanks, again, everyone!

Adopt-A-School

Wasn’t it a pleasure to have Waleska Soto join us for church on the 18th!?  Waleska shared the school’s appreciation for our church and the Adopt-A-School committee (Karen Kovacs, Donna Bolling, and Deanna Powell). The year has been a resounding success, and the congregation’s donations of socks and underwear, candy, snacks, and beverages (and anything requested!) have been sincerely appreciated; and the volunteer hours donated have been rewarding for all concerned.

We strongly urge you to get involved in this amazing program.  Tutoring, class helpers, classroom party helpers, listening to children read or reading to them, and helping with school events are just a few of the ways to be a “Good Shepherd” in our community.

Make a Sock-ri-fice, Make a Difference

Don't forget to bring your new or gently worn socks and new underwear to put in the Sock-ri-fice basket. They are greatly appreciated.

Bereavement Ministry
Funeral Dinner Service
“As Needed”

Begun by Mary Fischer many years ago, our offer to host a Fellowship Dinner after a funeral for families who have lost a loved one is one of the most compassionate things we do as a congregation. At a time when families are often at a loss about what to do, we can provide a time and place for them to gather, to eat a meal they haven't had to prepare, and to share memories—both sad and funny—about their newly sainted family member. With no exception, each time a dinner if offered and accepted, the families are incredibly grateful for this ministry at their time of loss.

When Mary turned over this responsibility a couple of years ago, the GALS picked up the task of organizing the food and workers for these funeral dinners. But the lists of those willing to donate food and time are sadly out-of-date, and the GALS find themselves going back to the same people time after time for dishes and dish washers. Though the GALS are happy to continue organizing these meals, this is a ministry of Christ Lutheran Church we all share, and we could use more help in this effort.

If you are willing to make a funeral dinner item (always a side dish since the family provides the meat entrée) such as potatoes, vegetables, salads, jello, desserts, rolls or beverages, please call the Church Office to add your name to the list. If you would be willing to help set-up, serve or clean-up after a funeral meal, please indicate that as well. If we get a good response to this request, the hope is that you would only receive a call to help once or twice a year. That way, no one is overburdened to provide food (which can get expensive) or labor (which can be time-consuming). The GALS will continue to organize the meal,  communicate with the family, and order / pick-up the meat, but more help is definitely needed. Call Susan at the church office to offer your service to this Bereavement Ministry. Thanks to all who have been part of this Christian service over the years, and thanks to the GALS for all their work to continue it.
