Service

Food Pantry
June 9th & 23rd
6:00—8:00 p.m.

With our crew of  faithful volunteers, we are able to serve people quickly, effectively, and respectfully. Many thanks to everyone who works so diligently to help the food insecure families in our community. Our numbers continue to increase, and we are seeing new faces. Folks who come to us for the first time are thrilled with the products and the process we offer. In addition to the canned and dry food items, we offer fresh produce, eggs, bakery items, meat, and more. Brenda Ondeka does a great job of ordering from Second Harvest to make our grant dollars stretch as far as possible.

We are always in need of more volunteers!  Help is needed on these two same Mondays around 10:30 am to stock the shelves and arrange tables. Can you spare an hour or two?

St. Andrew’s Hot Meal
Monday, June 16th
6 p.m.

Once again, Christ Lutheran provided for the com-munity! On Monday, May 19th we provided meals for 108 people, with enough left-overs to provide another 25 to Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Lorain. We served a menu of fish sticks, homemade macaroni salad, homemade cole slaw, and homemade orange iced cake. Thank you to all who helped with this meal! Our next meal will be on Monday, June 16th. Please look for texts from me for specific details. If you are not in the group text and would like to be, contact Deanna: 440-935-3281.

We’re trying to keep the menu simple for summer, so if you are interested in making menu items ahead of time, please contact me. I’m also interested in new menu ideas!

Adopt-A-School

Wasn’t it a pleasure to have Waleska Soto join us for church on the 18th!?  Waleska shared the school’s appreciation for our church and the Adopt-A-School committee (Karen Kovacs, Donna Bolling, and Deanna Powell). The year has been a resounding success, and the congregation’s donations of socks and underwear, candy, snacks, and beverages (and anything requested!) have been sincerely appreciated; and the volunteer hours donated have been rewarding for all concerned.

We strongly urge you to get involved in this amazing program.  Tutoring, class helpers, classroom party helpers, listening to children read or reading to them, and helping with school events are just a few of the ways to be a “Good Shepherd” in our community.

Make a Sock-ri-fice, Make a Difference

Don't forget to bring your new or gently worn socks and new underwear to put in the Sock-ri-fice basket. They are greatly appreciated.

Bereavement Ministry
Funeral Dinner Service
“As Needed”

Begun by Mary Fischer many years ago, our offer to host a Fellowship Dinner after a funeral for families who have lost a loved one is one of the most compassionate things we do as a congregation. At a time when families are often at a loss about what to do, we can provide a time and place for them to gather, to eat a meal they haven't had to prepare, and to share memories—both sad and funny—about their newly sainted family member. With no exception, each time a dinner if offered and accepted, the families are incredibly grateful for this ministry at their time of loss.

When Mary turned over this responsibility a couple of years ago, the GALS picked up the task of organizing the food and workers for these funeral dinners. But the lists of those willing to donate food and time are sadly out-of-date, and the GALS find themselves going back to the same people time after time for dishes and dish washers. Though the GALS are happy to continue organizing these meals, this is a ministry of Christ Lutheran Church we all share, and we could use more help in this effort.

If you are willing to make a funeral dinner item (always a side dish since the family provides the meat entrée) such as potatoes, vegetables, salads, jello, desserts, rolls or beverages, please call the Church Office to add your name to the list. If you would be willing to help set-up, serve or clean-up after a funeral meal, please indicate that as well. If we get a good response to this request, the hope is that you would only receive a call to help once or twice a year. That way, no one is overburdened to provide food (which can get expensive) or labor (which can be time-consuming). The GALS will continue to organize the meal,  communicate with the family, and order / pick-up the meat, but more help is definitely needed. Call Susan at the church office to offer your service to this Bereavement Ministry. Thanks to all who have been part of this Christian service over the years, and thanks to the GALS for all their work to continue it.

for one person.
