Service
Food Pantry
Monday, April 22 6—8 p.m.
With Solar Eclipse Day coming up, the committee has decided not to hold a food pantry (nor delivery) on April 8. Therefore, THERE WILL BE ONLY ONE FOOD PANTRY NIGHT IN APRIL. (April 22) Thanks to all who are so loyal in helping every month with morning deliveries, registration, guiding people through the choice pantry, packing items for guests, and taking boxes to cars. Through food from Second Harvest and Lake Ridge Academy, we are well-stocked to serve our pantry families with good, healthy food.
Many thanks to Brenda and Andrea for “taking care of business” with Second Harvest: filling out forms, sending in orders, and taking training. We appreciate their work in helping others.

Helen Steiner Rice Holds Career Day
The career expo held at our adopted school (Helen Steiner Rice), Tues., March 19, was a totally successful event! Approximately 25 vendors set up tables to share various jobs that students may, one day, be interested in pursuing. The students, kindergarten through 5th grade, definitely enjoyed passing by the APL puppy that needs adopted! Also in attendance were the Assistant Fire Chief, a Lorain Policeman, a soldier, a representative from the Crushers Stadium, and a civil engineer who explained how black top is made for roads. LCCC had a presentation, and Deanna Powell (from Redeemer) talked about her work at FAA as an Air Traffic Controller.
In addition, there were handouts: plastic firemen helmets, pop-it toys, and healthy graham cookies. Lunch was provided by Chick-Fil-A, supplemented with assorted chips donated by our GALS group (with proceeds from their cabbage roll sale). Doleda Howard from United Methodist Wesleyan Church (our adopt-a-school partner) donated pop and cases of water.
Donna Bolling and Karen Kovacs, volunteers from Christ Lutheran Church, assisted the groups from 7:30 am until 1:30 pm. Many special thanks to the GALS, Doleda and UMC! I'm already looking forward to next year’s expo! - Karen Kovacs.

Bereavement Ministry
Funeral Dinner Service
“As Needed”
Begun by Mary Fischer many years ago, our offer to host a Fellowship Dinner after a funeral for families who have lost a loved one is one of the most compassionate things we do as a congregation. At a time when families are often at a loss about what to do, we can provide a time and place for them to gather, to eat a meal they haven't had to prepare, and to share memories—both sad and funny—about their newly sainted family member. With no exception, each time a dinner if offered and accepted, the families are incredibly grateful for this ministry at their time of loss.
When Mary turned over this responsibility a couple of years ago, the GALS picked up the task of organizing the food and workers for these funeral dinners. But the lists of those willing to donate food and time are sadly out-of-date, and the GALS find themselves going back to the same people time after time for dishes and dish washers. Though the GALS are happy to continue organizing these meals, this is a ministry of Christ Lutheran Church we all share, and we could use more help in this effort.
If you are willing to make a funeral dinner item (always a side dish since the family provides the meat entrée) such as potatoes, vegetables, salads, jello, desserts, rolls or beverages, please call the Church Office to add your name to the list. If you would be willing to help set-up, serve or clean-up after a funeral meal, please indicate that as well. If we get a good response to this request, the hope is that you would only receive a call to help once or twice a year. That way, no one is overburdened to provide food (which can get expensive) or labor (which can be time-consuming). The GALS will continue to organize the meal, communicate with the family, and order / pick-up the meat, but more help is definitely needed. Call Susan at the church office to offer your service to this Bereavement Ministry. Thanks to all who have been part of this Christian service over the years, and thanks to the GALS for all their work to continue it.
