Council Meeting Highlights........August 6th, 2024
Opened at 6:59 pm , by Dave, devotions by Jackie. Minutes of the June 4 meeting accepted as written.
President’s Report: electric sign from Redeemer currently in storage at Wagner’s. First bid $10,000 to retrofit to our sign. 2nd bid for $5-6,000 to put in new posts and use our top. Dave might do some of the work to save $10,000, but can’t start till at least October. All comfortable with Dave’s thoughts, judgment, and opinions. He’ll figure out HIS costs, and revisit at next meeting. Dave and Mark to build closet for hall tables and chairs. approx. 12 x 16 “outside” by bluegrass closet. Pat motioned up to $15,000 on closet. Karen second. All approved, motion passed.
Treasurer’s Report: Ed absent, but Susan presented written reports for June and July. June very basic, no questions or details. July report: Under expenses: $50 returned item was due to stop pymt on donor’s offering, due to acct being “hacked”. Under income: Susan/Ed questioned disposition of $470 from Redeemer’s last service. Ed to make line budget item for St. Andrews’. Will eventually merge with food pantry. The difference of $495 (7-14 deposit): Donor wrote $500 on envelope, but $5 on check. Additional check for $495 received. Motion to accept reports as presented: Karen, 2nd by Andrea All approved, passed.
Office Secretary’s Report: All 2024 months filled for council articles. Pastor Paul to supply Aug. 25. Susan to supply organ Aug. 18. Louise to supply organ Aug. 25. Susan looking for cabinet for near organ and tall table for sanctuary entrance. Chris also looking. More storage issues: Chris to take care of bibles in office. Concerns re: tv, video equipment, computers stored in the office. Aerobics might be done, so could use the closet. Susan to discuss w/Karalynne. Further discussion re: use of “booklet style” order for worship, w/Celebrates for readings and hymnals for music. Agreed to “give it a try”.
Committee Reports: Bluegrass: Most food items to increase 50 cents. Door cost to stay same. Rentals: bounce houses permitted? Due to liability, no. Rentals increase $50 starting in Jan. Much discussion re: if Fri, and Sat. evenings to cost more than morns/noons. Ed to note “actual expenses” to run church (utilities, trash collection, insurance, etc.) all 2023 and first 6 months 2024; then hourly rate, so tabled till next month. Eucharistic Ministers to include Red. Members monthly. At beginning, to take Redeemer member with them. Christian Ed/Youth: VBS went well! Enjoyed Pastor Steve! 11 kids per eve. Pantry given info. about book pantry to books to distribute at our pantry. Andrea to follow up. Steve cautioned re parking by playground, as kids throwing rocks. Co-Op: Panda Express Dine to Donate Aug. 25 10a to 10p Lorain & Avon: take flyer/show on phone, co-op gets 20% .Quick discussion of Aug. events of partner churches city event on 2nd Sat w/Slider for pix and Red. Episc. book store, farm market, and collecting razors, shaving cream, toilet paper, paper towels; Great Lakes Church Back to School Bash Aug. 10 9-11:30 am. Fellowship: convection ovens taking too long to cook/not heating properly. fans missing. Dave to try to order parts. To sched. bowling night and/or game night. GALS: 20 to Sept. retreat. Holding cabbage roll sale in Oct. Work days: 16th noon-5, 17th 6-?, 19th 9-?, distribute 20th. Orders due 13th. Property: Tiny kitchen ants still problem. To try sprinkling cinnamon at drain. Adopt-A-School: to announce mtg. for upcoming school year. Warm-A-Child: has plenty adult items, need kids hats/gloves (toddler to age 16). Sock-ri-Fice: Marcia to chair project. Call: changes made to MPS. Still questions re: salary, then should be ready! Council to add video committee/teach more people to record for FaceBook.
Old Business: middle kitchen sink leaking due to missing release lever. Dave to remedy. Dave changed lounge light bulbs and removed dead bees from lights. Stephanie purchased and Joe set up doorbell. Shed/dumpster removed from agenda: w/new closet, shouldn’t be issue. Sound System: 1st phase $10,000, and includes equipment for all 3 phases and sound for sanctuary. Phase 2 is cameras in hall, etc, for $1,400. Phase 3 is upgrading hall for $6,000. Questions about warranty/whether he would follow up work. Stephanie said yes, but to confirm for next meeting. Dave has card rack. To re-stain. Will measure/decide where to place. Karen wants Kids of Kingdom events Advent and Lent. Susan to discuss with Steve if interest. If not, to find someone else. God’s Work, Our Hands Sept. 8. Karen to call Blessing House re: need work done. Redeemer’s wooden cross to hang where currently leaning. Bell tower needs new wood and painted. Tree needs down before winter.

New Business: Steve to lead Bible Study 6:30 – 8 Wed. Aug. 18—Oct. 30 To send Ian Hamilton $200 check gift for wedding.
